Teachers could be brain engineers

A National Science Foundation-funded University of Washington study shows how intensive instruction changes brain circuitry in struggling readers. Twenty-four children ages 7-12 participated in an eight-week, one-on-one reading intervention program, and scientists recorded activity in their brains using magnetic resonance imaging to investigate the effects of the intensive instruction.
