New ice-shedding coating for large surfaces

A spray-on coating developed by University of Michigan researchers causes ice to fall away from large surfaces with just the force of a light breeze, or often from the weight of the ice itself. The spray takes advantage of low interfacial toughness, which encourages cracks to form between ice and surfaces.
