Examining DNA to understand disease

Sridhar Hannenhalli, a professor of cell biology and molecular genetics at the University of Maryland, uses computational biology to understand how specific genes turn on and off, and how those changes could lead to cancer. Hannenhalli’s work in the Center for Bioinformatics and Computational Biology also looks at how an individual’s DNA structure can cause them to be more or less at risk to certain diseases.
