A Look at LIGO
Jay Marx, a high-profile experimental particle physicist, is at the forefront of the emerging field of gravitational wave astronomy. Marx directs the Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory, which is uncovering messages the waves bring from black holes, neutron stars and processes that formed the universe. First predicted by Albert Einstein, these waves or ripples in space-time are only now able to be measured.
